u know it's not yr problem that everybody wants some at every little drop of the hat but it only goes to reason that the only way to please them is the occasional pat on the back u know yr only human certain failure looming the impulse is cut and run believe me when I tell u always take the long view everything is said and done take them when u feel good take them when u feel bad take them every time yr sick if it's any consolation I don't have the patience whatever road u go, it's quick philosophy is pointless hope it only wrecks us and rhyme is the wit of fools so pardon if I lie here got to get my head clear find my way through the fog no final self-reflection or naval introspection no lesson I learned in school can save me from what's coming and everyone who's gunning to watch the day I go take them when u feel good take them when u feel bad take them every time yr sick if it's any consolation I don't have the patience whatever road you go, it's quick

about

This album was in large part the result of repairing a semi-functional Roland Rhythm 55 and finding delight in its dulcet thumps and searing, trebley snare hits. What else. The album is named after the persona I attempted to inhabit for the last year -- a kind of mash-up of Marc Bolan and Woody Allen, but without, you know, automobile accidents or incest. Just the face glitter and anxious dread and self-loathing.

The album title is not the only allusion to Difficult Musicians, believe it or not. Track five was an attempt to erase Roger Waters. Actually, that would have been a better song title. The lyrics to "Erase Roger Waters" I wrote at 6:30 AM at the Montvale Service Area on the Garden State Parkway as a busload of French teenagers disembarked and grumpily waited for BK to start selling coffee, then complained bitterly after they attempted to drink it. The lyrics to "Every Kind of End" were partially ChatGPT-generated. The samples in "Manuel Orantes Quietly Declines" required about 2 entire days of watching "Hill Street Blues" on YouTube. I think we can all agree that was time well-spent. Immediately before the third verse on "Every Kind of End" (00:02:13) my dog adds some collar-bourine expertly.

More about this album's physical construction: The "Recording the Masters" RTM911 tape came from the fine Canadians at Duplication.ca. The tape itself is based on the Aktien-Gesellschaft für Anilin-Fabrikation tape formula -- see below -- from their Wolfen factory (known by the pithy monicker "VEB Film und Chemiefaserwerk Agfa Wolfen") in East Germany.

Also known as IG Farben. Yes, that IG Farben. The folks who brought us Zyklon-B. I discovered this after sourcing the tapes, don't cancel me.

I'd like to go further back, and think that these tapes are long-descended from the iconic Flemish industrialist Lieven Gevaert, who started what would become AGFA in the intellectual tradition of the "Rerum novarum," back when popes gave a shit about The People, supported labor unions, and predicted capitalism would land us exactly here. 2023. Enjoy!
